The Mylar shim is a specialized adjustment tool used in conjunction with Weaver "Adjust-To-Fit" (ATF) bearing systems. Measuring 34-3/16" in length, this thin shim (.0052 thickness) is wrapped around the bearing to take up minuscule amounts of slack between the bearing and the plunger. As in-ground lift plungers age and are polished down during maintenance, they can become slightly undersized, leading to rocking or poor seal performance. By using these Mylar shims, a technician can customize the fit of the bearing to match the current diameter of the plunger, effectively "re-zeroing" the system without the need for an expensive new plunger.
